Benji Michel’s productive month of July earned him major honors in the Finnish top-flight.
Michel was named Veikkausliiga Player of the Month for July, his club HJK Helsinki announced Tuesday. The American forward scored three goals and added one assist during league play in July, helping HJK move up to fourth place in the table.
He was also named to the Team of the Month for July.
Michel started the month with one assist in a 3-2 defeat to FF Jaro before also starting against VPS, AC Ouli, and IF Gnistan. He scored a brace in the 4-2 triumph over Gnistan, which marked his first multi-goal performance for the club.
In addition to his domestic production, the 27-year-old also registered one assist in HJK’s 9-0 Conference League qualifying series victory over NSI Runavik. Despite playing a 2-2 aggregate series in the next round against Arda Kardzhali, HJK suffered elimination in a penalty shootout.
Michel has produced seven goals and two assists in 22 appearances for HJK in 2025. The former Orlando City draft pick has also played for Portuguese club Arouca, as well as Real Salt Lake and Real Monarchs before his move to Finland.
HJK will resume league play on August 11 against second-place Ilves.
Haven’t heard much on Benji Michel at all after he left MLS for the Finnish league (Veikkausliiga). Good for him…
Good for him. Shocked no one in MLS could use a pacey winger who occasionally produces goals.
