Josh Sargent and Haji Wright are hitting the ground running in EFL Championship play this month.
Sargent and Wright both scored in respective victories for their clubs on Saturday. It marked the second league goal of the season for Sargent while Wright bagged his first of the campaign for Coventry City.
The Canaries used a pair of first-half goals to down Portsmouth 2-1, earning their first three points of the season.
Harry Darling propelled Norwich City in front after six minutes before Sargent added to the visitors early lead eight minutes later. The Missouri native dove in the box to head home a flick on, making it 2-0 to the Canaries.
Portsmouth pulled a late goal back, but Norwich City held on for a road victory, their second of the season in all competitions.
Sargent is now up to 51 career goals for the Canaries, moving him three behind Wes Hoolahan for fifth all-time in the club’s goalscoring ranks.
Norwich City hosts Middlesbrough next on August 23 before facing Southampton in the second round of the EFL Cup.
Haji Wright scores from penalty spot in Coventry City’s comeback win

Haji Wright celebrated his first goal of the new campaign as Frank Lampard’s Coventry City squad earned a dramatic win at Pride Park.
Wright scored from a first-half penalty kick as the Sky Blues downed Derby County 5-3 on Saturday. Despite falling down 3-2 early in the second half, Coventry City rallied to score three goals and pull away for the win.
Bobby Thomas and Callum Elder traded goals in the opening 12 minutes before Wright rifled home from the spot in the 25th minute. Carlton Morris pulled Derby County level in first-half stoppage time.
Ebou Adams propelled the Rams in front 3-2 in the 50th minute but Coventry City took advantage of poor Derby County defending to flip the match back in its favor.
Brandon Thomas-Asante and Ephron Mason-Clark scored three minutes away after the hour mark to make it 4-3 before Victor Torp added an insurance strike with 11 minutes to play.
Coventry City would hang on for its first win of the new season, moving up to fourth place in the league standings.
Up next for the Sky Blues is a home clash with QPR on August 23.
Seems likely Sargent along with Wright and Downs are called in for Setember friendlies. All other strikers are injured or recovering from injury still. Could Milan Iloski sneak in too?
I think if Sarge, Downs, and Wright are healthy they are there. Pepi and Balo will probably be healthy but we thought that 10 days again and they haven’t played since then. My biggest problem with Iloski is he looks like a villain from a James Bond movie.
Seems likely both Wright and Sargent are called up in September. Considering Pepi, Balo, Agye are still recovering. Downs, Wright, Sargent and maybe a call up for Milan Iloski.
Lynden Gooch with his first goal since Boxing Day 2023. Huddersfield still lost despite playing the last 54 minutes up a man. Lest anyone gets excited Gooch will be 30 this December and now plays RB (a very crowded position in the pool).
And he wasnt a NT caliber player in his prime. But – he seems like a good guy from SBI and Sunderland Til I Die. So good for him for making a good career in England
Agree. I was hoping after he’d been at the promotion playoff taking pics with fans Sunderland would resign him to a vet with vibes deal like Timmy Chandler. Be a good dude and play >100 minutes a season, but that didn’t happen.
