Griffin Yow made the most of his first start of the new Belgian league season.
Yow scored the opening goal for Westerlo on Saturday in an eventual 3-1 home triumph over Zulte Waregem. The former DC United product played 60 minutes in the match as Westerlo claimed its first three points of the new campaign.
Yow pounced on a blocked shot in the Zulte Waregem box before sliding home the opening goal after just 55 seconds. It marked the fastest goal for the club since the 2014-15 campaign.
Josimar Alcocer doubled Westerlo’s lead in the 11th lead but Zulte Waregem cut the deficit in the 30th minute to make it 2-1 at halftime.
However, Westerlo would pull away for good in the 82nd minute as Isa Sakamoto delivered the insurance goal.
Fellow American Bryan Reynolds played the full 90 minutes at right back in the victory.
Both Yow and Reynolds remain on the radar of several clubs this summer and could potentially be on the move before the transfer window closes in September.
Westerlo next hosts Mechelen on August 9 seeking to make it back-to-back wins.
