Ricardo Pepi remains sidelined for PSV-FC Twente

PSV will once again be without the services of American forward Ricardo Pepi this weekend.

Pepi has been ruled out of PSV’s Eredivisie clash with FC Twente, manager Peter Bosz confirmed Friday in his prematch press conference. The U.S. men’s national team forward missed PSV’s season-opening 6-1 victory over Sparta Rotterdam last weekend despite featuring against Go Ahead Eagles in the Dutch Super Cup the week prior.

He is scheduled to have fluid drained from his knee before returning to club training next week.

“We have to be careful with him, so that also means he’s not there against Twente,” Bosz said in a club interview. “He no longer has pain and no movement restrictions, but a trace of fluid in the knee.

“That must first be out if it is fully released,” Bosz added. “The knee is otherwise good, they all told me that and so we will have to be patient. In the event of an injury, that is quite normal.”

Pepi, 22, delivered 17 goals for PSV last season across all competitions, despite mainly playing as an option off of the bench. He was given the No. 9 jersey for the current season following Luuk De Jong’s move to FC Porto.

With De Jong not standing in his way, Pepi should see a larger role as PSV aims to repeat as league champions.

PSV also faces FC Groningen and Telstar before the September FIFA window.
