Tim Weah joins Marseille, makes Ligue 1 return

Tim Weah is going back to where it all started, France’s Ligue 1.

Weah has joined Marseille in a permanent deal from Juventus, both clubs announced Wednesday. The U.S. men’s national team winger will be under contract through June 2030.

Weah, 25, spent the last two seasons with Juventus, scoring seven goals and adding 11 assists. He lifted the Coppa Italia with the Bianconeri during the 2023-24 season.

Weah originally came up through the Paris Saint-German youth ranks before also spending time at Celtic on loan, as well as fellow Ligue 1 side Lille. The New York native made over 100 appearances for Lille before moving to Juventus and joining USMNT teammate Weston McKennie.

Since debuting for the USMNT in 2018, Weah has scored seven goals in 44 career caps. However, he has not featured in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad since March.

Marseille opens its Ligue 1 schedule on August 15 against Rennes and will also take part in the UEFA Champions League later this fall.

  1. A lot of competition at FWD and wing. With that being said Mason Greenwood was the only one to get more than 10 goals last season.

Is it me or are most of their forwards capable of playing on the right and the left wings lol. Hope he really plans on digging deep and playing hard at Marseille, as making the first team week in week out, is not going to be easy with what I’m seeing. Make sure you eat your Wheaties kid….you are going to need it!!!!
