Tanner Tessmann was Lyon’s hero on Friday night.
Tessmann scored his first goal of the Ligue 1 season as Lyon defeated Angers 1-0 at the Groupama Stadium. The result moved Lyon to second place in the league table on goal difference, right behind league-leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
After a goal-less first half, Lyon picked up its pressure which led to Tessmann delivering the breakthrough goal. Tessmann’s left-footed shot from the right six of the Angers 18-yard box nestled into the bottom-left corner, giving Paulo Fonseca’s squad a 1-0 advantage.
It marked Tessmann’s second-career goal for Lyon in his 40th appearance.
Slovakian goalkeeper Dominik Greif made two key saves for Lyon, helping preserve the home triumph.
As for Tessmann, he also won three duels and completed one tackle from his midfield position. Tessmann has continued to be a key player for Lyon through the early stages of the new Ligue 1 season and will have his European opportunity this week.
Lyon will open Europa League play on Thursday at Dutch club FC Utrecht.
