Americans Abroad Player of the Week: Haji Wright

Coventry City’s leading man Haji Wright continued his blistering run of form in a pair of victories.

Wright scored three goals in his last two appearances as Frank Lampard’s men moved top of the EFL Championship. The U.S. men’s national team forward earned SBI Americans Abroad Player of the Week honors for what has been another stellar week for him at club level.

Wright found the back of the net twice on Wednesday as the Sky Blues rolled past Millwall 4-0 at The Den. He earned Man of the Match honors on the night and added to his growing goal tally in a hostile atmosphere.

The American forward was also on the scoresheet on Saturday as Coventry City rolled past Sheffield Wednesday 5-0. Wright now has nine goals in all competitions this season, with eight of those coming in EFL Championship play.

Not only are the Sky Blues sitting top of the league table, but Wright’s eight goals have him in front of the Golden Boot race. The 27-year-old will now hope his club form can translate over to the USMNT this month for upcoming friendlies against Australia and Ecuador over the next 10 days.

Here is a closer look at this week’s top Americans Abroad performances:

Patrick Agyemang

Patrick Agyemang got to cross off his first Derby County goal off his list on Saturday.

Agyemang scored the Rams’ equalizer in a 1-1 home draw with Southampton. The USMNT forward rose high to head home Andreas Wiemann’s cross before celebrating with the Pride Park faithful.

With one goal and two assists to his name, Agyemang looks to be finding his footing abroad.

Catarina Macario

Catarina Macario had a vital say in Chelsea’s 1-1 road draw with Manchester United.

Macario assisted on the Blues’ lone goal of the match, helping them earn a point against the Red Devils. The U.S. women’s national team attacker will surely have a dig at USWNT teammate Phallon Tullis-Joyce, who she helped beat for the goal.

Noahkai Banks

It was a memorable day for Noahkai Banks.

Banks scored Augsburg’s opening goal in a 3-1 home Bundesliga victory over Wolfsburg. The 18-year-old American defender celebrated his first senior goal for the club and logged a strong performance.

The result was a much-needed win for Sandro Wagner’s men, who snapped a four-match winless run in the process.

Rokas Pukstas

Croatian side Hajduk Split made it three-straight victories in all competitions.

American midfielder Rokas Pukstas scored the lone goal in a 1-0 road victory over Vukovar on Saturday. The Oklahoma native now has four goals in 12 appearances this season, continuing what has been a productive spell for Hajduk Split.
