Haji Wright’s brace leads Coventry City past Millwall

Haji Wright is continuing to play a large role for Frank Lampard this fall.

Wright scored Coventry City’s opening two goals in Wednesday’s 4-0 road victory over Millwall. The U.S. men’s national team forward helped the Sky Blues move up to second place in the EFL Championship table with the midweek result.

Wright opened the scoring for Coventry City in the 30th minute, tapping home Brandon Thomas-Asante’s cross into an empty net. Thomas-Asante stole possession deep in the Millwall half before racing down the right flank and finding the wide open Wright.

Wright doubled the visitors lead in the 66th minute, heading home Milan Van Ewijk’s cross into the back of the net. It marked Wright’s second multi-goal outing of the league season and first since August 23.

Ellis Simms and Kaine Kesler-Hayden added insurance goals for the Sky Blues later in the half to pad a comfortable victory at The Den.

Wright, who now has seven league goals and eight overall in all competitions, will be among the potential options for USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino this month. Pochettino will announce his October camp roster on Thursday ahead of upcoming matches against Ecuador and Australia later this month.

Coventry City will now turn its attention towards Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, knowing it could finish the weekend top of the table with a victory.

    • In the last 10 yrs there has only been two players score 30+ goals in a Championship season,Toney and Mitrovic, and only 5 all-time. He’s pretty unlikely to get to 30, especially considering his history.
