Weston McKennie delivers strong shift in Juventus’ UCL draw

Weston McKennie’s third start of Juventus’ season ended up being his best overall in the new campaign.

McKennie logged a strong 90 minutes in Juventus’ 2-2 UEFA Champions League draw with Villarreal on Wednesday. The American midfielder jumped back into Igor Tudor’s starting lineup and finished the night as one of the better performers.

Despite conceding an 18th-minute opening goal to Georges Mikautadze, Juventus rallied early in the second half to flip the match back in its favor.

Federico Gatti’s overhead kick tied the match four minutes after halftime before Chico Conceicao propelled the Bianconeri in front before the hour mark.

Villarreal fought for a late equalizer and found it through the headed finish of Renato Veiga in the 90th minute.

The 27-year-old McKennie finished the match with six duels won, three tackles completed, two clearances, and one offensive chance created. He teamed up with Manuel Locatelli in the heart of the Juventus midfield.

McKennie will now aim to retain his starting spot for Sunday’s top-four Serie A clash with AC Milan. The matchup will pit McKennie against his U.S. men’s national team teammate Christian Pulisic.
