Yunus Musah didn’t start Atalanta’s UEFA Champions League clash with Club Brugge on Tuesday but had a vital say in the final scoreline.
Musah delivered the game-winning assist as the Serie A hosts defeated Club Brugge 2-1 in Bergamo. The American midfielder entered the match as a second-half substitute and delivered his first goal contribution for his new club.
Christos Tzolis propelled the visitors in front after 38 minutes, giving Club Brugge a 1-0 lead that they would take into the break. However, Atalanta would rally in the second half to flip the match in its favor.
Lazar Samardzic’s 74th-minute penalty kick finish tied the score at 1-1 before Musah contributed on the go-ahead goal.
Samardzic’s corner kick was flicked on by Musah in the 18-yard box, allowing Mario Pasalic the chance to finish into the back of the net. It marked Musah’s first goal contribution at club level since January 26.
Atalanta would hold on for a crucial three points at home while Musah finished the match with two duels won and two chances created.
It was a lively cameo from the 22-year-old, who had made four previous appearances since arriving on loan from AC Milan.
Atalanta will next host Como in Serie A play on Saturday with Musah seeking a start ahead of potential U.S. men’s national team duty.
Had some good moments, but also had a mistake with a back pass to the GK which resulted in a shot from Ajax.
