Americans Abroad Player of the Week: Alex Zendejas

What a week it’s been for Alex Zendejas.

Zendejas scored three days in the past four days as Club America claimed a pair of Liga MX victories. The U.S. men’s national team winger earned SBI Americans Abroad Player of the Week honors after continuing his strong run of form.

Agyemang’s week started with the 27-year-old coming off of the bench to deliver a winning goal against Atletico San Luis. Despite not starting the match in Andre Jardine’s squad, Zendejas had the final say with a 89th-minute finish.

Club America needed a second-half rally on Saturday to grab three points against Pumas, but once again, Zendejas was a vital figure in the match.

The surging winger chipped Costa Rican international Keylor Navas in the 73rd minute to give Club America a 3-1 lead before also adding a penalty-kick goal six minutes later. Zendejas now has five goals and two assists in 11 Apertura appearances this fall, with his five tallies leading the roster.

Most importantly, Club America sits third in the league table, thanks to Zendejas’ recent run of form.

With USMNT action vastly approaching, Zendejas will be hoping to hear his name called for friendly action.

Here is a closer look at this week’s top Americans Abroad performances:

Christian Pulisic

The good times are continuing for Christian Pulisic.

Pulisic registered one goal and one assist in AC Milan’s 2-1 Serie A victory over Napoli on Sunday. The USMNT star continued to be a major final-third threat as the Rossoneri moved to top spot in the league table.

With six goals and two assists to his name so far this season, Pulisic doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.

Patrick Agyemang

Patrick Agyemang is quickly making a name for himself in the Derby County squad.

Agyemang registered his second assist of the season in Derby’s 1-1 road draw with Wrexham on Saturday. The USMNT forward’s headed pass was finished off by Ben Brereton Diaz, helping John Eustace’s squad leave Wales with one point.

Joe Scally

Despite Borussia Moenchengladbach suffering a disappointing home Bundesliga loss, Joe Scally left the field as one of the better performers.

Scally registered two assists in a 6-4 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday. The 22-year-old played 90 minutes at right back, serving up a pair of crosses in the second half, which were headed home for consolation goals.

With Sergino Dest dealing with an injury, Scally may be the No. 1 right back option heading into October USMNT camp.

Korbin Shrader

Lyon’s women’s team rolled to a 6-1 league victory on Saturday with U.S. women’s national team midfielder Korbin Shrader earning Player of the Match honors.

Shrader scored a hat trick for the reigning French champions in her first derby matchup against Paris Saint-Germain since joining the club last summer. Alongside fellow USWNT teammate Lindsey Heaps, who also scored once in the match, Shrader looks to be gelling nicely with her new squad.
