Chris Armas’ tenure with the Colorado Rapids is over.
Armas has mutually parted ways with the Rapids, the Western Conference club announced Monday. He joined the club ahead of the 2024 MLS season and led Colorado back to the playoffs that year.
However, the Rapids missed the postseason this fall on goal difference, totaling 41 points in 34 league matches.
Discussions regarding a potential contract extension took place, but both parties agreed to move in different directions.
“We’re grateful to Chris for the professionalism and passion he brought to the club,” said Colorado Rapids President Pádraig Smith. “He helped our group take meaningful steps forward over the past two seasons and leaves behind a strong culture that will serve us well as we begin this next chapter.”
Armas registered a 30-17-35 record during his 82 matches in charge of the Rapids. He previously was head coach of the New York Red Bulls and Toronto FC before joining Colorado.
The front office has already begun its search for a new head coach ahead of the 2026 MLS season.

Hardly an awful record. But, the game can be brutal. Bob Bradley was fired as the Egyptian national team coach because he won every game but one and that game meant they failed to qualify based on goal differential.
Two seasons, 7th in the West lost 1st round 9–1 on aggregate, finished 11th missed the playoffs. Just 5 pts from their last seven contests after looking a near lock to qualify.
No not Tio Chris Armas!!! I know he will find another gig.
Maybe because it’s MLS. If you take out his 2018 season when he finished Jesse’s season he’s been fairly mediocre, and 2-7 in the playoffs all-time. Hasn’t won a playoff match since 2018. Not too different of numbers from Ben Olsen but Ben does have 2 Open Cups, he hadn’t won a playoff match since 2015 until last years run. Better than Robin Fraser, not too different from Nico Estevez either.
