Red Bulls part ways with head coach Sandro Schwarz

The New York Red Bulls became the latest MLS franchise to shake up things in their front office.

Sandro Schwarz will not return as Red Bulls head coach, the Eastern Conference club announced Monday. The move came as part of the side’s Sporting Leadership Transition after they failed to make the MLS Cup Playoffs this year.

In addition to Schwarz’s departure, Jochen Schneider has stepped down as the club’s Head of Sport, with Julian de Guzman taking over in the role.

“I would like to thank Sandro for the last two seasons, especially coaching this team during a memorable 2024 Playoff run,” Schneider said in a club statement. “His dedication to the job was outstanding, and I truly wish him nothing but the best in his future coaching endeavors.”

Schwarz joined the Red Bulls ahead of the 2024 MLS season and made an immediate impact, leading the team to an Eastern Conference Championship and the club’s second MLS Cup Final appearance. In his 81 matches in charge, Schwarz registered a 28-27-26 record in Harrison, New Jersey.

The 47-year-old German previously served as manager of Hertha Berlin, Mainz, and Dynamo Moscow before moving to the U.S.

The Red Bulls finished 10 points out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
