Aidan Morris “will soon be back” for Middlesbrough

Aidan Morris did not dress in Middlesbrough’s comeback win over Derby County on Saturday but isn’t expected to miss much time for the EFL Championship side.

Morris missed Saturday’s dramatic 2-1 home victory due to a leg injury suffered in Middlesbrough’s previous match against Coventry City. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder played 45 minutes in Boro’s 4-2 loss to the Sky Blues, a result which came against the league leaders.

Matt Targett and Morgan Whittaker both scored at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday, helping Kim Hellberg’s squad erase an early goal from American forward Patrick Agyemang.

Morris has made 18 appearances for Middlesbrough this season across all competitions, taking his career tally to 55 for the club. A former MLS standout with the Columbus Crew, Morris has quickly become a key player for the second-division squad, helping them remain in the top-six.

While there is no timetable yet for Morris’ return to action, Hellberg hopes it is soon with Middlesbrough continuing a busy stretch in its schedule.

“I don’t know about the injured players,” Hellberg said in a postmatch press conference. “I think they’re coming back in a short amount of time but we’ll see how long it is. I think they [Ayling and Morris] will soon be back too, but I don’t have the best information to tell you. It’s better to ask other people to get the right picture but I think they’ll soon be back.”

Middlesbrough next visits Hull City on Friday before taking on Charlton Athletic four days later.
