Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Weah faces McKenzie, and more

Ligue 1 continues through its busy fall schedule on Saturday with two of the U.S. men’s national team’s leading faces squaring off in a Top-10 showdown.

Tim Weah and Marseille welcome Mark McKenzie and Toulouse to the Orange Velodrome on Saturday. Weah is coming off a strong midweek performance in UEFA Champions League play, assisting once in Marseille’s 2-1 win over Newcastle United.

The USMNT winger now has four goal contributions on the season, continuing to produce in Roberto De Zerbi’s squad. Another strong performance may be needed from Weah if Marseille wants to keep pace near the top of the table.

McKenzie has continued to be a regular starter for Toulouse this season, logging 12 appearances to date in all competitions. The veteran centerback is closing in on 1,000 league minutes this campaign, coming off the bench just on one occasion so far.

After delivering a strong first season in France, McKenzie has rarely put a foot wrong in 2025, remaining well in the USMNT picture. Trying to shut down Weah, Mason Greenwood, and others will be a tough test, but one that McKenzie and his Toulouse teammates will be eager to try and do.

In England, Brenden Aaronson and Leeds United face a tough test at Manchester City. Chris Richards and Crystal Palace host struggling Manchester United. Aidan Morris and Patrick Agyemang meet in EFL Championship action.

In Germany, Malik Tillman and Bayer Leverkusen host Borussia Dortmund. Joe Scally and Borussia Moenchengladbach welcome RB Leipzig to town. John Tolkin and Holstein Kiel host Hertha Berlin in 2. Bundesliga play.

Elsewhere in France, Folarin Balogun and AS Monaco host Paris Saint-Germain. Tanner Tessmann and Lyon host Nantes.

In Italy, Christian Pulisic and AC Milan welcome Lazio to the San Siro. Weston McKennie and Juventus host Cagliari in Turin.

  1. Pepi starts and scores a goal in PSV 3-0 win.

Cole Campbell puts in transfer request amid Club Brugge, Anderlecht, and Danish club Midjiytiland heavy interest. He needs to leave Dortmund.

    • I would say some MLS teams should look to get him, but highly doubtful any MLS team would pay over 3 or 4 mil on a transfer fee for him, and Dortmund clearly think he is somehow worth over 7 million.

  2. 18 yr old Marvin Dills made the bench for Frankfurt midweek in Champions League. I don’t think he’s likely to get minutes anytime soon but a nice reward for his hard work. Ranked as a top 10 player in US ‘07 age group and top 30 of all youth age groups.

  3. Looks like Pulisic tweaked his hammy again in training. Looks likely to miss this weekend. Hope this isnt a lingering hammy issue the rest of the season.
