The good times continued for Bundesliga club Borussia Moenchengladbach on Saturday and American defender Joe Scally was at the forefront of their most recent victory.
Scally logged one of his best 90 minutes performances of the campaign as Gladbach earned a 3-0 result over FC Heidenheim. After a struggling start to the season, Gladbach have won four matches in a row in all competitions, turning the tide this fall.
Kevin Diks, Haris Tabakovic, and Shuto Machino all found the back of the net as Eugen Polanski’s squad moved up to 11th place in the league table.
Scally was all over the place in defense, delivering a match-high four tackles, winning 11 duels, and drawing three fouls. The 22-year-old full back also completed 91% of his passes and made nine clearances.
With 12 appearances and two assists already under his belt this season, Scally is on pace for new career-highs in multiple categories.
Gladbach will continue league play on November 28 against RB Leipzig before facing St. Pauli in DFB Pokal action.
In England, Chris Richards and Crystal Palace picked up three points at Wolves. George Campbell returned to action for West Bromwich Albion. Jonathan Tomkinson scored his first goal for Cheltenham Town.

McKennie put in a good shift, playing the whole 90 when some other better known players were subbed out. He had a good header that forced a good save from the GK in what would have been a winning goal. While Scally hasn’t shown that well with the USMNT, I still maintain he shouldn’t be overlooked. He has been a consistent starter for about 3 years, almost always goes 90 and is still only 22. Good to see Palmer Brown finally getting a starting job in Greece after several years starting in France Ligue 1.
What I find interesting about McKennie is the number of roles he had played for Juventus. In past games, he has been positioned as a wingback or outside midfielder. In this game, he was supporting Vlahovic up front in more of an attacking role.
If he starts today in a UCL match, then it is clear he has solidified his place on this team.
Pulisic the goal in the Derby Della Madonnina. So much for whoever said he doesn’t score against big teams. 3g in 8 appearances against Inter.
Feeling passive-aggressive?
Pulisic – 0 goals, 0 assists vs Juve in 5 Serie A games.
How was his PK vs Juve?
Juve isn’t the best team in Serie A though are they? I wasn’t trying to be passive aggressive couldn’t remember who said it. Ok maybe it was a little passive aggressive.
This season he has goals against Napoli (3rd/1st at the time), Inter (4th/1st at the time), and Udinese (10th/4th at the time). Last season goals against Inter (2nd), Fiorentina (6th), Bologna (9th), and Como (10th) 4 of his 11 league goals or 7 goal contributions in of 22 total came against top 10 finishers (really nine because he can’t face AC Milan). Lautaro Martine had 3g of 12 last year against top 10 teams and Retegui 7g of 25 against top 10 teams so Pulisic’s percentage is fairly similar to the top scorers in the league that also feast on the weak.
———————
He did also score against Juve in the SuperCoppa.
He has scored against Real Madrid, Liverpool, Inter Milan, etc. Not big enough teams for you?
Johnnyrazor,
Did you answer the question about how Pulisic did with his PK vs Juve?
Pulisic does not produce vs the top 6.
Pulisic vs Roma – 0 goals in 3 Serie A games
Pulisic vs Atalanta – 0 goals in 4 Serie A games.
Pulisic scored vs Juve in the Super Coppa…sounds like desperation on your part.
“Pulisic doesn’t produce against the top 6.” Then you name three teams. Every attacker scores less against good teams, especially in Italy where top place finishes usually relate closely to organized stingy defenses. In those 4 Serie A matches Pulisic has played against Juve there has been one goal scored total in 360 minutes. One goal and only after Milan went a man down.
Johnnyrazor,
I have provided more than 3 teams. I provided data on his scoring, or lack thereof, vs the top 6 teams in each year’s final Serie A table, hence my proclamation that he feasts on the lower half / minnows of Serie A.
I have provided the data twice…and it was more than 3 teams…I am not going to dig it up a third time…you can do so, if you want.
You trolled my position when he scored and assisted vs Napoli. You trolled it again this past weekend. Yet, you have yet to answer, “how did he do vs Juve?”
To your point of, “Every attacker scores less against good teams, especially in Italy where top place finishes usually relate closely to organized stingy defenses”…that is EXACTLY my point. Pulisic is not a top tier player. If he were, he would be producing CONSISTENTLY vs the top 6 teams in the table…that is what top tier talent does.
I hope Pulisic proves me wrong, sa that would be good for the USMNT, but history and data says he won’t.
