Oliver Glasner eases worries over Chris Richards substitution

Chris Richards did not finish Crystal Palace’s match at Wolves on Saturday night, but Eagles manager Oliver Glasner isn’t too worried about that.

Richards was substituted off in the 83rd minute of Crystal Palace’s 2-0 win at Molineux, a result that moved the Eagles into the top-four of the English Premier League table. Despite the club already making a double substitution, Richards also went down on the field and was eventually replaced by Jaydee Canvot for the final few minutes.

Richards, who was not part of Mauricio Pochettino’s U.S. men’s national team roster this month, was able to earn some needed rest during the international break after dealing with a calf issue in the process.

While USMNT and Crystal Palace fans would’ve normally held their breath when Richards went down, Glasner isn’t expecting Richards to miss time.

“He said he was cramping,” said Glasner in a postmatch press conference. “Maybe we gave him too long off because he wasn’t called up for the United States and had the first week of the international break off. Hopefully it’s nothing serious.”

Richards, 25, has made 17 appearances for the Eagles in all competitions, which has included his first involvement in a UEFA competition. The Eagles have only lost two matches in EPL play this season, in addition to suffering only one defeat in Conference League play.

Up next for Crystal Palace is a visit to Ligue 1 side Strasbourg on Thursday before a November 30 date with Manchester United at Selhurst Park three days later.
