Michael Bradley hired as Red Bulls new head coach

The New York Red Bulls are promoting from within to fill their open head coaching vacancy.

Michael Bradley has been named the Red Bulls new head coach, the club announced Monday. Bradley becomes the second New Jersey native to become head coach of the MLS franchise.

“Michael [Bradley] had an exceptional playing career and has demonstrated a bright future in coaching especially after leading our Red Bull New York II to the MLS NEXT Pro Cup this past season,” said Red Bulls Head of Sport Julian de Guzman.

The 38-year-old Bradley most recently served as head coach of New York Red Bulls II in MLS NEXT Pro. He led the club to a league title this past November, posting an 11-4-4 record during the regular season and a 3-0-1 record during the playoffs.

Prior to joining Red Bulls II, Bradley served as an assistant coach with the Canadian men’s national team, as well as with Norwegian side Stabaek under his father Bob’s leadership.

As a player, Bradley played professionally for 20 seasons and also earned 151 caps for the U.S. men’s national team. He excelled in MLS for Toronto FC, lifting six trophies during his time there and making over 300 appearances for the Canadian club.

The Red Bulls failed to make the MLS Cup Playoffs in 2025 despite reaching the league final in 2024.

  1. Good Luck to him. The Red Bulls have historically been cheap when it comes to hiring talent. I hope they open the pocketbook to bring in some real talent.

    • I really hope he has a long, successful career within club managing first. Going straight into International competition, its unique demands, limited games is a good way to hinder a managers exposure/develoment.
