The loss of Eric Ramsay to West Bromwich Albion has led Minnesota United promoting from within to fill its head coaching vacancy.
Cameron Knowles has been promoted to the opening, the Western Conference club announced Monday. Knowles takes over for Ramsay, who left for England this past weekend.
“Cameron is the right leader for this moment in our club’s journey,” said Khaled El-Ahmad, Minnesota United’s Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director. “He has grown with this organization, understands our players, our culture, and our standards, and has consistently demonstrated the ability to develop people, build strong teams, and compete at a high level. We believe in Cameron, we believe in this squad, and we are excited about the future we are building together.”
Knowles has been with Minnesota United since 2021, serving in a wide range of roles from a video analyst to head coach of MNUFC2 in MLS NEXT Pro. He served as the Loons interim head coach before also holding a first-team assistant coach role.
Prior to his move to Minnesota United, Knowles spent nine years with the Portland Timbers, serving as a first-team assistant coach as well as head coach of Timbers2 in the USL Championship.
Minnesota United finished fourth in the Western Conference last season, reaching the MLS Cup Playoffs before falling to San Diego FC in the Conference semifinal round.
