Americans Abroad Player of the Week: Malik Tillman

It’s been one heck of a week for American midfielder Malik Tillman.

Tillman scored three goals in two appearances over the past week, leading Bayer Leverkusen to a pair of victories. The U.S. men’s national team attacker earned SBI Americans Abroad Player of the Week honors for his impactful run in the starting lineup.

Bayer Leverkusen clinched its spot into the UEFA Champions League playoff round, with Tillman having a vital say midweek. Tillman recorded his first brace for the Bundesliga side in a 3-0 victory over Villarreal on Wednesday, earning Man of the Match honors in the process.

The 23-year-old followed that up by scoring his sixth goal of the season in all competitions as Kasper Hjulmand’s squad defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 in league play on Saturday. Tillman scored Leverkusen’s second goal of the first half, logging a productive 82 minutes in midfield.

Hjulmand will now hope Tillman can continue his goalscoring run midweek when Bayer Leverkusen hosts St. Pauli in the DFB Pokal quarterfinals. The club will be seeking its fourth-straight win in all competitions, which will mark the second time this season that they’ve reached that mark.

Here is a closer look at this week’s top Americans Abroad performances:

Patrick Agyemang

Patrick Agyemang’s continued production in the Derby County starting lineup has the club well in the promotion fight this season.

Agyemang scored his ninth goal of the EFL Championship campaign on Friday as the Rams rolled past Bristol City 5-0 at Ashton Gate. The American forward has now scored three goals in his last four appearances, continuing to step up for the injured Carlton Morris.

Not only are Agyemang’s goals helping Derby County in the top-six race, but they are also boosting his chances of being a USMNT call-up this March.

Gianluca Busio

Venezia are flying high atop the Serie B standings and Gianluca Busio contributed to the club’s seventh-straight win on Saturday.

Busio scored the opening goal in Saturday’s 2-1 home league triumph over Carrarese. The former Sporting KC homegrown unleashed a powerful shot off of the left post and in after 25 minutes, giving him his fourth goal of the campaign.

Venezia would claim all three points, using an 82nd-minute winning goal to move to 47 points earned.

Alyssa Thompson

Chelsea suffered one of its more humiliating WSL defeats of recent time on Sunday but Alyssa Thompson left the match as the Blues lone bright spot.

Thompson scored the Blues’ lone goal in a 5-1 defeat to league-leading Manchester City. The U.S. women’s national team star called her own number in the 68th minute, delivering a sensational left-footed finish into the bottom-left corner.

Thompson now has six goals for the Blues in her debut season abroad, including three in her last five appearances.

Weston McKennie

Juventus’ top-four push continued Sunday with a dominant road win over Parma.

Weston McKennie continued his productive goalscoring run to start 2026 by netting his fourth goal of the new year. The USMNT midfielder delivered an acrobatic scissor-kick finish in the first half, doubling Bianonceri’s lead at the time.

McKennie would play 73 minutes in the match as Luciano Spalletti’s squad rebounded from a midweek UCL draw.
