Weston McKennie’s impactful season with Serie A side Juventus has reportedly led to talks continuing over a longer stay for him in Turin.
McKennie and his representatives are continuing talks with Juventus over a new contract, Juventus director Marco Ottolini confirmed in an interview with Football Italia. The American midfielder’s current contract is slated to expire at season’s end, but after Juventus signed star attacker Kenan Yildiz to a new deal, McKennie is next on their list to lock up long-term.
“We are very happy with the Yildiz deal, with regards to McKennie we are proceeding with meetings, while we are very happy with the coach and will sit down with him over the next few weeks,” Ottolini said.
McKennie had been linked with an exit from the club over the past few seasons, despite remaining a regular contributor over that time. The veteran midfielder originally joined the club on loan from Schalke in 2020 before eventually making his move permanent in 2021.
He’s scored seven goals and added two assists in 37 appearances for Luciano Spalletti’s squad and overall has made 215 appearances over six seasons. McKennie was also loaned to English Premier League side Leeds United during that time.
Juventus sits fourth in the Serie A standings and are also preparing for a UEFA Champions League playoff round series with Galatasaray.
