Report: Juventus “very happy” with Weston McKennie as contract talks continue

Weston McKennie’s impactful season with Serie A side Juventus has reportedly led to talks continuing over a longer stay for him in Turin.

McKennie and his representatives are continuing talks with Juventus over a new contract, Juventus director Marco Ottolini confirmed in an interview with Football Italia. The American midfielder’s current contract is slated to expire at season’s end, but after Juventus signed star attacker Kenan Yildiz to a new deal, McKennie is next on their list to lock up long-term.

“We are very happy with the Yildiz deal, with regards to McKennie we are proceeding with meetings, while we are very happy with the coach and will sit down with him over the next few weeks,” Ottolini said.

McKennie had been linked with an exit from the club over the past few seasons, despite remaining a regular contributor over that time. The veteran midfielder originally joined the club on loan from Schalke in 2020 before eventually making his move permanent in 2021.

He’s scored seven goals and added two assists in 37 appearances for Luciano Spalletti’s squad and overall has made 215 appearances over six seasons. McKennie was also loaned to English Premier League side Leeds United during that time.

Juventus sits fourth in the Serie A standings and are also preparing for a UEFA Champions League playoff round series with Galatasaray.

  1. ” Juventus has reportedly led to talks continuing over a longer stay for him in Turin.”

Well no $hit…..McKennie is one of the (IF NOT THE) TOP SCORING MIDFIELDERS IN SERIE A CURRENTLY this season, has been shown the door time and time again with him having to fight his way back to become one of the “sparks” of the team…..again and again and again. Yet the kid asks for a $600,000 raise (from 3.2 million to only 3.8 million) and Juve refuses??? Who of the TOP 10 earners at Juventus is producing more than McKennie THIS SEASON for this team???

    1. Dusan Vlahovic / €427,308 per wk / €22,220,000 a year

    2. Jonathan David / €213,654 per wk / €11,110,000 a year

    3. Bremer / €178,077 per wk / €9,260,000 a year

    4. Lois Openda / €142,500 per wk/ €7,410,000 a year

    5. Francisco Conceicao / €135,385 per wk / €7,040,000 a year

    6. Manuel Locatelli / €117,500 per wk / €6,110,000 a year

    7. Teun Koopmeiners / €110,962 per wk / €5,770,000 a year

    8. Federico Gatti / €110,385 per wk / €5,740,000 a year

    9. Edon Zhegrova / €89,038 per wk / €4,630,000 a year

    10. Andrea Cambiasso / €85,385 per wk / €4,440,000 a year

Now he’s coming up on the end of his contract WITH NO STRINGS ATTACHED AND PLAYING THE BEST BALL OF HIS LIFE……..TURN THAT 3.8 MILLION YOU WERE ASKING FOR INTO F@#$ING $7 MILLION KID…….FOR THE YEAR TO YEAR DISRESPECT ALONE.

Juventus………Luciano Spalletti………PUT SOME RESPECT ON THE NAME!!!!! ….ok I promise I’m done for now LOL

    • Interesting looking at those wages, because they don’t really reflect who has been most important on the field at all. It sure pays to be a striker, regardless of how much you produce lol.

    • Yeah Mackennie should be in the 5 to 7 million range a year. Juventus better secure him because Inter Milan are waiting in the wings to snap him up.

      • Reports were he was only asking for 4.5, but who knows how accurate that is.

If your Wes though do you take less money to stay with Spalletti? Allegri loves him but plays him as a WB, Wes never played this well for Max.

    • Weston McKennie is reportedly asking for a contract extension at Juventus worth approximately €4.5 million per season (EUROS) PLUS BONUSES……..WHICH EQUALS $5.34 MILLION (DOLLARS) PLUS BONUSES…..which could be closer to 6.0 to 6.5 million dollars.
They should have locked him in at the 3.8 million Euros (from $2.7 million plus add ons) he was originally asking for ……oh well inflation hits a like a mother F@$%er…….LMAO

I would take a slight pay cut to play for a coach that values, respects and believes in the ability of McKennie like Luciano Spalletti does. He will not get that anywhere else. Spalletti is the MAIN reason that Weston is balling out of control like his life depended on it. Its crazy what mere confidence from a coach does to a player’s psyche / overall performance output. He is so fun to watch all of a sudden. Absolutely crazy…

      • Good point Bizzy I didn’t notice we were not talking the same currency.
        – Allegri also has a great relationship with Weston. It was Allegri that when management was taking his parking space and locker was like “I don’t care I’m starting him every week.” He just doesn’t have as open of an offensive system as Spalletti and usually played Weston as a WB.

  2. Under the radar but our usmnt u17 qualified for the u17 WC. Hard final game against Dominican Republic. Tie 1-1 with our U17’s grinding out a result with 10 men due to a red card. Dominican Republic is a nation on the rise in Concacaf.

  3. For Juventus to be at the top next season they will jeed to sign a better striker, and another winger. Just saying Pepi could be the solution.

    • 2tone,

They just spent a lot of money signing David. Jonathan has proven himself over time at a higher level than Ricardo. And while the reviews are mixed he hasn’t exactly been a total failure at Juventus. I notice how much better they are playing now that he is around. Maybe they sell him in the offseason if he does not come around.

But if they don’t, why would they take a chance on a less proven player who is going to to have to go through the same acclimation process that David is going through now?

A Pepi / David partnership is an intriguing idea but why wouln’t Spalletti just move Weston up front to partner full time with David?

That makes more sense to me.
