Brenden Aaronson’s impactful week helped Leeds United move one step closer to sealing Premier League safety.
Aaronson assisted once in Leeds United’s 2-1 victory over Manchester United on Monday before also adding one assist in a 3-0 win over Wolves on Saturday. The U.S. men’s national team attacker earned SBI Americans Abroad Player of the Week honors after his pair of positive outings.
Aaronson’s deft header allowed Noah Okafor to double the Lilywhites’ lead at Old Trafford Monday, 24 minutes after Okafor opened the scoring. The 25-year-old played 86 minutes in the match as Leeds United snapped a three-match winless streak.
After helping Leeds United earn a rare win at the Theater of Dreams, Aaronson was at it again at Elland Road on Saturday.
James Justin propelled the hosts in front 1-0 before Aaronson teed up Okafor with a dangerous cross into the 18-yard box. Aaronson’s cross was finished off by Okafor for a 2-0 lead ahead of Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s insurance goal in stoppage time.
Aaronson played 78 minutes in the match as Leeds United moved eight points clear of the relegation zone.
Aaronson has continued to rack up the starts in Daniel Farke’s squad and now looks to be picking up his overall production. He will aim to deliver a strong end of the season as Leeds United next takes on AFC Bournemouth midweek before taking on Chelsea in the FA Cup semifinals.
Here is a closer look at this week’s top Americans Abroad performances:
Folarin Balogun
The goals just keep on coming for Folarin Balogun.
Balogun’s second-half penalty kick goal helped AS Monaco earn a share of the spoils in Sunday’s 2-2 Ligue 1 draw with Auxerre. It marked Balogun’s eighth-consecutive Ligue 1 match with a goal and his 18th of the season in all competitions.
With AS Monaco still pushing for a European spot, Balogun will still seek more goals before season’s end.
Daryl Dike
Daryl Dike and West Bromwich Albion are closing in on EFL Championship safety.
Dike came off the bench on Saturday to score his first goal of the season in a 2-0 road win over Preston North End. The American striker hadn’t scored since May 2025 before Saturday’s tally, which helped the Baggies move five points clear of the relegation zone.
With his contract up at the end of the season, Dike will seek a strong run to close the latest league campaign.
Auston Trusty
Auston Trusty and Celtic booked a return to Hampden Park this May.
Trusty played the full 120 minutes on Sunday as Celtic outlasted St. Mirren 6-2 after extra time to reach the Scottish Cup Final. The veteran American defender rarely put a foot wrong in the match, continuing to be a stalwart in Martin O’Neill’s backline.
Trusty and Celtic could still complete a domestic treble by season’s end, pending they win the Premiership title and lift the Scottish Cup.
Danny Leyva
Necaxa claimed a 1-1 Liga MX draw with Tigres on Saturday as Danny Leyva picked up his third goal contribution of the season.
Leyva assisted once in the result, continuing a productive run with his new club this season. The 22-year-old has not looked out of place in Liga MX, racking up 15 appearances to date with ample matches left to play this spring.

One thing about Aaronson. Even when he doesn’t score or assist, he is a real pest for opponents’ defense. He seems to be always pushing forward and challenging defensive players, putting them under stress. He is fast enough and good enough with the ball that I’m sure defenders hate to see him coming.
Aaronson is the Dirk Kuyt of the USMNT player pool!
The thing is I do not think Poch rates him very well. Doesn’t seem to get many minutes but still gets called in.
