Brenden Aaronson earns assist in rare Leeds United road win over Man United

45 years since Leeds United’s last road win at Old Trafford, Daniel Farke’s squad celebrated that feeling once again on Monday.

Brenden Aaronson registered one assist in Leeds United’s 2-0 Premier League win over Manchester United on Monday night. It marked Leeds United’s first league road win at the Theater of Dreams since February 1981, helping the Lilywhites move six points clear from the relegation zone.

Noah Okafor became the first Leeds player to register a road league brace against the Red Devils, scoring both of his goals in the first half.

Okafor’s opening goal came just five minutes in as the Swiss forward finished off Jayden Bogle’s cross into the bottom corner. Bogle’s cross was flicked by Dominic Calvert-Lewin but it was Okafor who finished the play off for a 1-0 lead.

Leeds United would double its lead before halftime as Okafor dialed his own number from outside of the box. Aaronson rose high to head possession for his team and the loose ball fell to Okafor for a stellar one-timed finish into the bottom-right corner.

Manchester United were reduced to 10 men early into the second half as Lisandro Martinez was guilty of a hair pull on Calvert-Lewin. VAR ruled in favor of the red card as Martinez was ejected before the hour mark.

Casemiro pulled one goal back for the Red Devils 13 minutes later, but Leeds United would eventually grind out the result.

Up next for Aaronson and Leeds is a home date at with Wolves at Elland Road on Saturday.

  1. Big win for Leeds, 6 pts up of relegation with 6 matches to play. Moves them ahead of Forest and West Ham. Not much of an assist on the play but count just as much as a well time thru ball behind the backline.
