The EFL Championship is back in full swing on Good Friday and three key American players will hope to be amongst the action.
Haji Wright, Patrick Agyemang, and Aidan Morris are all set to resume their busy club schedules this weekend as England’s second-tier gets back underway. Wright, who was not part of the U.S. men’s national team’s March due to a groin issue, remained in England over the international break.
The 28-year-old has bagged 17 goals for the league-leading Sky Blues across all competitions, picking up his production in 2026.
Although he did not travel over the break, Wright’s status remains unknown for Coventry’s home clash with Derby County on Friday.
“He’s okay and we’ll have to see if he’s available for the weekend,” Sky Blues manager Frank Lampard said Thursday in his prematch press conference about Wright’s availability.
Should Wright miss out on Friday’s match, he could be back as early as Monday when the Sky Blues visit Hull City in a quick turnaround.
Patrick Agyemang “raring to go” for Derby County return
While Haji Wright may not be on the field at the CBS Arena on Friday night, Patrick Agyemang should be.
Agyemang retuned late Wednesday evening after featuring in both of the USMNT’s March friendlies against Belgium and Portugal. The 25-year-old scored off of the bench in a 5-2 loss to the Belgians before playing 45 minutes in Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat to Portugal.
Agyemang has impressed in his first season abroad, scoring 10 goals for John Eustace’s Rams. The former MLS product has helped Derby County to a current eighth-place spot and remain alive in the race for a promotion playoff spot by season’s end.
Eustace is excited to have Agyemang, as well as Ben Brereton Diaz back available for a crucial trip to Coventry on Friday.
“They’re in good spirits,” Eustace said in his prematch press conference about Agyemang and Brereton Diaz. “Patrick came back late last night. Bez was back the day before, I think. They’re both raring to go. They’ve both had really good camps, and it was great to see them both score, so we’re really pleased for them.”
The Rams will return to Pride Park on Monday for an afternoon date with Stoke City.
Aidan Morris looking doubtful for Middlesbrough-Millwall
Middlesbrough manager Kim Hellberg is expected to have several key players available for Friday’s top-four showdown with Millwall, but Aidan Morris doesn’t sound to be one of them.
Morris was with Agyemang in the USMNT March camp, most recently starting and playing 79 minutes in Tuesday’s friendly vs. Portugal. The former Columbus Crew man was one of the few bright spots in the match, further padding his stock in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
Morris has been a stalwart in Hellberg’s squad this season, starting 16 matches in 2026 across all competitions. Despite missing some time last fall through an ankle problem, Morris has returned with a bang, helping Middlesbrough compete for automatic promotion back to the English Premier League.
However, he looks set to miss Friday’s return to action after a lengthy flight back from the United States.
“The honest answer is of course it’s tough with so many players away,” Hellberg said about missing players due to international duty. “But I’m also proud of the players going away to play for the national team. We’ll see if they can play. If they can play, they are good players so we will try to make them play.
“But of course, it’s not perfect when so many players are far away and we play early Friday but they don’t get back until Wednesday or Thursday,” he added. “But, it is what it is. You have to make a positive thing out of it.”
Middlesbrough will also travel to Swansea City on Monday as they begin the final stretch of the regular season.
