One of the New York Cosmos’ key players over the past few seasons is returning for the 2017 season.

The Cosmos announced that midfielder Danny Szetela is returning to the team after he was previously signed by the NASL’s newest expansion franchise, the San Francisco Deltas. Terms of the deal between the two teams were not disclosed.

“The Cosmos have been a big part of my life for a long time,” said Szetela. “I have many special memories here, including three title wins. I’m looking forward to another run for the championship and being around my family and friends who have been a huge support in my career.”

Szetela has made 75 regular-season appearances with the Cosmos. He has also played for the Columbus Crew, Racing Santander and Brescia.

The 29-year-old has won three Soccer Bowls with New York since he signed in 2013.

And DC United. Had high hopes for him when he was a kid. Sadly he’s part of the lost generation.

Sadly? Sheesh. I guess we have different perspectives.

There are literally hundreds of thousands of us amature players that would jump at the chance to play D2 soccer. He may not have met your expectations, but he’s exceeded mine.

yeah why is nobody asking how this went down? instead everyone is pontificating about how he should feel about the club that provided him another lifeline to continue playing a game for a living…something we would all jump at…

so back to the real issue: did cosmos have to buy him from SF?

I’m pretty sure that the Deltas didn’t just “give” him back for free unless the dude’s agent had some sort of “if the Cosmos come back from the dead before the start of the upcoming regular season you will release me to sign with them” clause in his contract.

And what have you got against pontificating? Don’t hate the Playah, hate the game…
