  1. St. Johns played a very defensive and boring game. They had one player up top and tried to play it long to him every time, but Maryland’s 6’5″ center back won every header. St. John’s goalie played well, but other than that it was kick and chase.

Please, its not the Premier League, but it’s far from “horribly disappointing”. They are 18-22 year old kids who would run you off the pitch.

  4. This was the first college match I’ve watched at this level, and was horribly disappointed at the level of play. UNC seemed to go with two capable players, one of them the keeper, and the other that Schuler guy, and nine stiffs whose sense of the game was a lifelong sup at the table of League Two. Ugly, awful, and desperate play. As for much vaunted Wake Forest, although they were as a whole clearly the superior side, I would have, and did, expect much more from such a “storied” side. If UNC was Accrington&Stanley then Wake Forest was Dag&Red. They were not quite as awful, quite as ugly, but in the end even more, and vainly, desperate.

Sanford Mibut can keep this mess.

  5. It looked like a possible handball in the box with 10 sec left by UNC. Don’t know if it was or not. It would’ve been nice if ESPN had showed a replay of it!

  6. 70th – Wake #17 nearly recreates Feilhaber’s Gold Cup goal, just over. Wake is starting to get it’s groove, I bet they get one.

  7. Timeouts. Sigh. Get with the program, NCAA!

I really hope they put in a spring league with FIFA rules, that’s the coolest rumor I’ve heard – dare to dream.

  8. 60th min, still 1-0 UNC. Great quality of play, better than many MLS matches I’ve seen. Players are good on the ball, Wake is now trying to get their 1 touch game going.

  9. It’s all about the CounterAttack so far. UNC are crowding the back and releasing the wings early creating unbelievable space on the counter. I look for a little more patience and alot more control from Wake in the 2nd half making this a V for Wake.

  10. NC really taking it to Wake the first half. Wake will have to change it up here in the second half. The pitch looks good but the crowd looks a bit sparse.

  11. Almost half time and Carolina has the surprise 1-0 lead. They’ve deserved it and look like the better team so far.

Disappointing crowd, too bad this year’s College Cup isn’t in Cary, NC, the 3 ACC teams would have drawn very well.
