New York Red Bulls Designated Player Tim Cahill has not taken long to find his form in MLS, accounting for a goal and two assists in five matches since joining the league and giving opposing defenders problems with his trademark aerial ability and runs into the area. It was more of the same on the international level for Cahill Thursday night.
Cahill scored the opening goal of Australia's 3-0 victory over Lebanon in a World Cup qualifying tune-up friendly, netting for the 25th time in his international career.
Cahill started the play by swinging the ball back to a defender before continuing his run down the center and outleaping a defender for a cross from Luke Wilshere for a header inside the area in the 20th minute that proved to be the eventual game-winning goal. Cahill and Australia enter Tuesday's Asian World Cup qualifier against Jordan with momentum as they look for their first win of the qualifying round after previously drawing with Oman and Japan.
