Marco Donadel named CF Montreal’s permanent head coach

CF Montréal has committed to Marco Donadel as its permanent head coach.

Donadel has been named to the role, the club announced Tuesday. He joined the club as an assistant coach in December 2024 before moving to interim head coach in March 2025.

Prior to his coaching career, the Italian-born midfielder played for the club from 2015-18.

“We are happy to confirm Marco Donadel’s position as head coach of the Club,” said CF Montréal Managing Director, Recruitment and Sporting Methodology Luca Saputo. “We are of firm belief that Marco possesses the right abilities to lead the Club going forward and to help us achieve our ambitions.”

Donadel’s coaching career began in Fiorentina’s youth system before being promoted to an assistant coach with the first team in 2020 and 2021. He also spent time with Russian side FC Spartak Moscow as an assistant before earning a first-team role with Italian club Ascona.

CF Montreal finished 13th in the Eastern Conference this season, winning just six league matches out of 34. The club’s 60 goals conceded were tied for the third-most in the conference.
