Americans Abroad Midweek Rewind: Adams, Aaronson, and more

RB Leipzig is 90 minutes away for its first-ever appearance in a European final and Tyler Adams helped the Bundesliga club to an important first leg win on Thursday.

Adams started and played 90 minutes in RB Leipzig’s 1-0 semifinal win over Scottish Premiership side Rangers, delivering one of his best performances of 2022. The 23-year-old completed 89% of his passes, won five of eight duels, made two interceptions, and eight recoveries. Adams worked tirelessly in midfield for Domenico Tedesco’s squad, helping the Bundesliga hosts earn an important result ahead of next week’s second leg showdown in Glasgow. RB Leipzig first will travel to Borussia Moenchengladbach in league play on Monday, aiming to finish the weekend in the top-four.

In England, Christian Pulisic played 19 minutes off of the bench as Chelsea tied Manchester United 1-1 at Old Trafford. Tim Ream played 90 minutes as Fulham lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest.

In Austria, Brenden Aaronson played 76 minutes in Red Bull Salzburg’s 2-1 loss to Sturm Graz. Aaronson and his teammates will now turn their attention towards Sunday’s Austrian Cup Final.

In Denmark, Emmanuel Sabbi played the full 90 minutes in Odense’s 2-1 Danish Cup semifinal first leg win over Sonderjyske.

In Copa Libertadores action, Joel Sonora became the fourth American player to score in the competition’s history, despite Velez Sarsfield’s 2-1 defeat to Nacional on Tuesday.

Tyler Adams started and played 90 minutes in RB Leipzig’s 1-0 win over Rangers on Thursday.

James Sands came off the bench and played seven minutes for Rangers.

Timmy Chandler dressed but did not play in Eintracht Frankfurt’s 2-1 win over West Ham United on Thursday.

Konrad De La Fuente is OUT FOR SEASON (Injury) for Marseille.


England


Premier League

Christian Pulisic came off the bench and played 19 minutes in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with  Manchester United on Thursday.

Tim Ream started and played 90 minutes in Fulham’s 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.

Antonee Robinson did not dress for Fulham.

Ethan Horvath dressed but did not play for Nottingham Forest.

Lynden Gooch started and played 90 minutes in Sunderland’s 1-1 draw with Rotherham United on Tuesday.

Taylor Booth started and played 89 minutes in Bayern Munich II’s 1-0 win over TSV Buchbach on Wednesday.

Alan Sonora started and played 90 minutes in Independiente’s 2-0 win over Deportivo La Guaira on Tuesday.

  1. What about Jose Gallegos? for Sonderjyske? (Another Mexican-American, transfer from the USL). He scored a couple weeks ago, I didn’t see it on the American Abroad section. He’s talented!! Llanez on the left, and Joe on the right would be my starting winger’s w/ Pepi at the 9, if we qualify for the Olympics.

    • Jose was one of my favorite watches in USL. Definitely a guy whose hype was hampered by Covid canceling the last U20 WC. Sonderjyske is going down though not sure what that does for him. From trailing with Bayern to Dutch 2nd division his trajectory not going in the right direction right now.
