Sergino Dest became the first American player to win the Spanish Copa Del Rey competition last year and Yunus Musah is aiming to follow in the footsteps of his international teammate this weekend.
Musah and Valencia will face off with Real Betis in Saturday’s Copa Del Rey Final at Estadio de La Cartuja in Seville. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder has yet to win a trophy in his European career, but has a major chance to achieve that goal this weekend. Musah played 55 mintues on Tuesday in a 2-0 La Liga loss to Villarreal, returning to the starting lineup after missing April 16th’s defeat to Osasuna. The 19-year-old has made 30 combined appearances this season for Valencia, scoring two of his three goals in this season’s Copa Del Rey. Valencia has lifted the Copa Del Rey on eight occasions and would increase its record to 9-9 all-time in the tournament final with a victory.
In Germany, Tyler Adams will aim to start for RB Leipzig against Union Berlin while Pellegrino Matarazzo’s Stuttgart faces Hertha Berlin in a major six-pointer at the bottom of the league table. John Brooks and Wolfsburg will hope to ease any relegation worries with three points against Mainz on Friday.
In France, Tim Weah and Erik Palmer-Brown headline the American contingent in action this weekend. Weah earned his first league start since mid-March as Lille fell to Stade Reims in midweek play while Palmer-Brown logged another 90 minutes for Troyes.
In England, Christian Pulisic and Chelsea will aim to rebound against West Ham United while Jesse Marsch’s Leeds United visits Crystal Palace on Monday. Duane Holmes and Huddersfield continue their quest of locking up a playoff spot in the EFL Championship.
In Belgium, Championship playoffs have started with only two Americans remaining in action. On Sunday, Mark McKenzie and Genk take on Gent, while Sam Vines and Royal Antwerp face Club Brugge.
In Mexico, Sebastian Saucedo and Pumas go to Estadio Akron for a highlighted showdown against Chivas on Saturday.
