Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Weah, Adams, and more

Ligue 1 side Lille has fallen way behind in the title race this season, but a result against league-leaders Paris Saint-Germain could be a major spark in Paulo Fonseca’s squad turning things around.

Timothy Weah has featured at left back in recent performances for Lille, giving the young American attacker a new opportunity to earn consistent minutes. Weah, the former PSG man, only made six appearances for the Ligue 1 giants before moving to Lille permanently in June 2019. The 22-year-old has since registered eight goals and eight assists in 92 appearances for Lille, featuring in several different roles for the club. Lille has lost its last three head-to-head matches with PSG in league play, but Weah will try and lead the visitors past his former employers to stay in the top-four race.

In England, Tyler Adams and his USMNT teammates will face off with Everton in a crucial six-pointer. Daryl Dike and West Bromwich Albion take on Watford in England’s second-tier.

In Spain, Yunus Musah and Valencia square off with Getafe.

In Germany, Gio Reyna and Borussia Dortmund aim to keep their league winning run going against Hertha Berlin. Joe Scally and Borussia Moenchengladbach face Bayern Munich.

Elsewhere, Djordje Mihailovic will fight to play a part in AZ Alkmaar’s top-two showdown with Feyenoord. Christian Cappis and Emmanuel Sabbi resume their league campaigns in Denmark. Reggie Cannon and Boavista face a crucial test against Benfica. Cameron Carter-Vickers and Celtic welcome struggling Aberdeen to Celtic Park.

Comments

  1. Still want Ream continued callous for the USMNT. His level of play for Fulham week in and week out is at a higher standard than any other of our CB’s.

  2. Cade Cowell might have a bidding war for his services this summer.

Juventus, AC Milan, Newcastle, and Bayern Munich are all interested in signing him.

Right now AC Milan and Juventus are leading the pack for his signature. Hope to see him called up in March. Especially considering most of our wingers/ attackers are struggling for minutes and/or are going through injury issues.
