Grenada vs. USMNT: The Pregame Tailgate

The U.S. men’s national team will not only move to first place in its Concacaf Nations League group with three points at Grenada on Friday, but also clinch a berth into the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup in the process (8 p.m. ET, Paramount+).

Anthony Hudson’s squad sits second in Group D of League A in the tournament with four points earned through two matches played. The USMNT defeated Grenada 5-0 in Austin last June, with Jesus Ferreira scoring four goals and Paul Arriola scoring once.

Several USMNT starters are back in the squad this spring with Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Matt Turner, and Antonee Robinson all set for starts Friday night. World Cup absences Ricardo Pepi, Daryl Dike, and Zack Steffen are also in the squad and will be fighting to start for the Americans as well.

Grenada is all but guaranteed a third-place finish regardless of Friday’s result, but will be fighting to give its home fans something to cheer about. The Spice Boys are 0-0-4 all time against the USMNT in all competitions.

  1. CP, even in a game against a completely overmatched foe, takes a million hits out there. any wonder why he’s always injured? talented, wonderful, tough but I don’t get this stubborn part of his game where he just holds the ball all the time

    • Pretty much all of our chances have come from CP dribbling through people though and either succeeding or getting free kicks. The ref needs to hand out a yellow the next time they just grab him.

      • Beach, I’m saying in the first half when Grenada was still somewhat organized he was the offense. If he’s not dribbling through guys it’s maybe 1-0 or 2-1. Especially with Reyna being rather underwhelming and Pepi seeming to have only been out there for two plays.

  2. the subtle detail but strong hint, on balogun’s visit to the yankees game, is when he received his personalized pinstripes the other person is wearing a US jersey. jersey swap? hmmm

    • how many turnovers just in the last 10 minutes of the half? almost every time he touched the ball he turned it over, and again, a defensive zero out there, and he pouts still…unbeleivable
