The United States men’s national team continue its quest to top Group D of League A in the CONCACAF Nations League on Monday when El Salvador visits Exploria Stadium for top spot.
After breezing past Grenada 7-1, the Americans host second place El Salvador in their final group stage match. El Salvador trails the Americans by two points going into Monday’s match and need a victory to win Group D. The United States can clinch a spot in the CNL semifinals with a draw or win in its Group D finale.
In their first meeting in the CNL last June, the USMNT came-from-behind to tie El Salvador 1-1 on a mud-filled, rain-soaked field at Estadio Cuscatlán. Friday night’s Man of the Match Ricardo Pepi and Leeds United midfielder Weston McKennie registered braces for Anthony Hudson’s side while Brenden Aaronson, Alex Zendejas, and Christian Pulisic also contributed goals in a 7-1 romp.
With the top European men’s leagues still on pause, UEFA European Championship Qualifying continues on Monday and Tuesday with Spain visiting Scotland and Turkey hosting Croatia.
At Stamford Bridge, Chelsea’s Women side hosts Olympique Lyonnais in its second-leg tie of the UEFA Women’s Champions League Round of 16. The Blues go into the match with a 1-0 lead on aggregate thanks to lone goal scorer Guro Reiten.
Several top European clubs also remain in the competition with Barcelona hosting Roma after a 1-0 victory in Italy last week and Bayern Munich visiting London in its second leg tie leading Arsenal 1-0 on aggregate on Wednesday. The action continues Thursday when Paris Saint-Germain visit Wolfsburg down 1-0 on aggregate.
