Many of the top teams in the English Premier League have continued to tour the United States during preseason summer camp and six more will headline a new tournament starting this July.
Chelsea and Newcastle United headline six EPL clubs that will take part in the inaugural Summer Series from July 22-30 across the country. Fulham, Brighton & Hove Albion, Brentford, and Aston Villa will also take part in the summer tour which is slated to take place across five U.S. stadiums.
“We are delighted to be bringing six clubs to the USA in July for the first-ever Premier League Summer Series,” Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said. “Our clubs have incredible supporters in the U.S., who passionately follow their teams throughout the season. We have seen this dedication first-hand from the tens of thousands who have attended our Mornings Live fan events and are excited to be building on this by bringing live Premier League action to five cities this summer.
“We are currently enjoying one of the most competitive Premier League seasons of all time at both ends of the table, and I am sure we will see some thrilling matches during the tournament,” Masters added.
Christian Pulisic, Tim Ream, and Antonee Robinson are three U.S. men’s national team players that could feature for their respective clubs this summer. Pulisic’s status with Chelsea remains unknown, but Robinson and Ream have remained stalwarts for Fulham this EPL campaign.
Chelsea will face Brighton & Hove Albion in the opening match of the tournament at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Fulham takes on Brentford on July 23 at the same venue while Newcastle United takes on Aston Villa later that evening.
July 26 will feature Brentford vs. Brighton & Hove Albion at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia while Chelsea takes on Newcastle United at the same venue. Exploria Stadium in Orlando will welcome Fulham vs. Aston Villa on the same night.
Former Atlanta United star Miguel Almiron will return to Atlanta after helping the Five Stripes win the 2018 MLS Cup.
Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey will host Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Newcastle United on July 28 before FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland plays host to Aston Villa vs. Brentford and Chelsea vs. FulhamĀ on July 30.
Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United are also expected to feature in the U.S. this summer as part of their preseason preparations.
CFC would do well to sort out who will be owning/ coaching/ playing for that mess instead of cash cow tour again this summer. and i realize folks will say “but they will be playing english teams anyway” but they are all clubs above them in the table with their current crap better together than chelsea’s. something is obviously fairly rotten at its core if you run assorted managers through the place and it just gets worse. so quit pedaling hard like all it needs is more effort at the same ways. flip the bike upside down and take it apart.
to me it’s pretty obvious what the issue is, it’s offense. their defensive numbers would be solid for a UCL type EPL team. their offensive numbers are bottom 10, which is then how reality plays out. same GF as palace right behind them. havertz and sterling can’t carry the team but are the only ones over 3 goals in all competitions. generally comes across like a team full of second fiddles in search of a haaland type or two who slam in 20+ and carry most of the load themselves. and a general problem for several years is they seem more “bought” than “purpose built.” previous iterations they had the checkbook out but there was more of a grander scheme and making sure the roles were all covered.
