American fullback Bryan Reynolds enjoyed a positive loan spell with Belgian club Westerlo last season and is now reportedly set to rejoin the side on a permanent deal.
Westerlo will reportedly pay AS Roma €3.5 million to acquire Reynolds this summer, Italian reporter Nicolo Schira reported Monday. Reynolds will make the move back to Belgium with hopes of remaining a consistent starter in the Pro League.
AS Roma will also receive a 25% sell-on clause if Westerlo transfers Reynolds in the future, according to the report.
The 22-year-old made 34 combined appearances for Westerlo last season, totaling one goal and two assists. Reynolds, a former FC Dallas homegrown signing, made the move to AS Roman back in February 2021.
However, Reynolds was reduced to just eight senior appearances for the Serie A club, while also spending time at Belgian side Kortrijk on loan.
A Texas native, Reynolds earned four of his seven U.S. men’s national team caps during the recent Concacaf Gold Cup. The USMNT reached the semifinals before suffering elimination at the hands of Panama in a shootout.
Westerlo finished seventh in the Pro League last season before finishing fourth in the UEFA Conference League Playoff group.
probably a good career move as they played him a lot and it platformed him into the NT. now work on your defending……goal aside GC was bad….his salvation is GB tends to have his pecking order and playing routinely makes you a made man…..and he glacially notices how the games actually go………
The 2nd American to play for Westerlo! In the 1990s, former SF Seals and A League Seattle Sounder— Troya Cowell, also suited up for the Belgian side! Maybe obscure– (and I know BR was there last season as well)——but we there is some US Soccer History at Westerlo!
Former US U17 Winger Griffin Yow also plays for Westerlo. Only 26 mins in 5 app last spring. Apparently getting minutes in preseason but hard to know if that will continue once regular season begins. According to Transfermkt Troya Cowell made 3 appearances for Westerlo.
Quality reference Johnnyr. That’s 3 then! Cowell was a part of a SF Seals team that made a run in the US Open Cup I think*. His story always intrigued me. I believe he is an artist now.
