Timothy Weah’s move to Serie A side Juventus is officially completed.
Weah has signed for Juventus after a permanent transfer from Ligue 1 side Lille, the Italian side announced. He follows in the footsteps of his father George, who played for AC Milan.
The 23-year-old Weah mainly featured as a fullback and wing back for Lille this season, registering two assists in 32 combined appearances. In total, Weah registered eight goals and eight assists in 107 appearances for Lille.
He previously played for Paris Saint-Germain and Celtic.
Weah recently started in both of the U.S. men’s national team’s Nations League matches in June, helping the Americans repeat as tournament champions. Weah has earned 29 caps with the USMNT to date, scoring four goals.
He now joins fellow USMNT teammate Weston McKennie, who has previously been linked with a move away from Turin.
Juventus did not qualify for European qualification after being deducted 15 points last Serie A campaign.
As long as Timo can play the left side striker, in 3-5-2, or a 4-4-2 or LWB in same formation. Rabiot’s left foot passes are coming on to Weah’s right foot. It def be a relief to see him use his stronger foot to his full power.
He’ wasn’t signed to play left side striker.
People don’t want to play him at striker.
That’s why he got moved to fullback and then wingback.
If he expects to stay at a high level, Timo needs to learn how to be more adaptable and be the best wingback he can possibly be.
Vacqui, Timo’s best position is LW. Look at Juve’s roster, then tell me, who has a better right foot than Weah. Look at Juve’s rosters, look at what formations Allegri uses. Then like myself, ask yourself where does Allegri play him? Timo did mention something about playing wingback going forward an interview. It’s all conjecture. You can’t see him consistently shooting with his right, in an advanced position, then say he’s a fullback. You just got in your head that he’s Cuadrado, or his playing trajectory is like Cuadrado. If you watch, then you’d know Timo has elite speed, something Juan has never had. Timo has a powerful shot, something that current Cuadrado hasn’t shown since ‘18. Cuadrado was a LW, for most of his career. He’s a better passer than Timo, but not a better athlete. Timo still shoots passes into the box with his right foot. Juan uses his left foot a lot more than Timo. I’ve been watching Juan ball since’14, vs Weah, who I 1st saw in ‘17. That setup on the set piece that CP gave him v Canada in NL, tells you how much power his shot has. How can you watch Leao play, and not notice the same play characteristics in Timo? At this moment, no one would ever say Leao is a wingback. I don’t have a bone 2 pic about his club (job) position. I do however, believe the US will be able to compete with the tougher countries if Weah is playing LW for the US.
IO2T,
I still want to try Timo at the #9. But I don’t disagree with you rating of Timo.
The trouble is Timo can’t convince anyone other than the USMNT that he is their best LW. The proof is in the pudding. I have to believe that Juve had the only credible interest for Timo at all.
We rate him higher than they do in Europe.
You are talking about what you want for the USMNT.
Neither Lille nor Juve gave give a fuck what the USMNT needs. Nor should they care.
Lille would not play Timo much at all until he moved to wingback. Then at least he had a chance to play ANYWHERE.
It appears that triggered Juve’s interest. Timo should thank god he had a chance to play wingback.
NOW Timo could go all Lamar Jackson and declare that he is only playing QB. But it seems like no one in the club world will listen, since Timo himself has said he sees his future at wingback/fullback.
And guess what, he can always play winger or striker for the USMNT.
It’s not like he’s shifting from being a starting pitcher to being a shortstop.
With the USMNT the most he’ll play is maybe 11 games a season. That’s nothing. With luck he might play 30-40 + games per season for Juve.
It’s easy for us to sit here behind our keyboards and talk about what’s right. But Timo wants to play and he wants to play in a top five league and he he probably does not want to take too much of a pay cut.
I don’t believe in getting between a man and his money.
Allegri brought him in to play that Cuadrado, RWB role, and he’ll be starting there when you look at the roster and their lack of fullback, winger depth and Juventus don’t play with true out and out wingers. He’ll be able to get up and down the touchline like he does with the USMNT with speed and accurate crossing ability, this is a win win for Timo, Juventus and the USMNT
if they play a 352 he’s both a wing attacker and a wing back. i played that spot a lot in select and some in college and it’s whistle to whistle end to end “fun” and responsibility.
it would be a best case if he was “converted” as it’s also an offensive position. and he could keep those “muscles” tuned.
