Americans Abroad Weekend Preview: Balogun, Adams, and more

AS Monaco’s unbeaten start to the Ligue 1 season came to an end last weekend but a home showdown with Marseille poses a great opportunity to rebound in league play.

Folarin Balogun and Monaco welcome Marseille to the Stade Louis II on Saturday in the headlining contest in France. Balogun is coming off a forgettable performance against Nice, a match in which he missed two penalty kicks in a 1-0 home defeat. The U.S. men’s national team striker has one goal for the club in three Ligue 1 appearances following his permanent move from Arsenal this summer.

Balogun scored in both of his head-to-head meetings with Marseille last season while on loan at Stade Reims. The 22-year-old will look to continue that streak in an important match for both teams this weekend.

In England, Tyler Adams will seek his first EPL appearance of the season as Bournemouth hosts Arsenal. Antonee Robinson, Tim Ream and Fulham host Chelsea in a London Derby on Monday. Reggie Cannon will aim for his QPR debut against Coventry City.

In Spain, Luca De La Torre and Celta Vigo take on Las Palmas on Monday.

In Germany, John Brooks and Hoffenheim face Borussia Dortmund in Bundesliga action. Kevin Paredes and Paxten Aaronson go head-to-head.

Elsewhere, Dante Polvara and Aberdeen face off with Rangers in SPFL action. Alex Zendejas and Club America host Pumas in Liga MX. Jonathan Amon and Lyngby visit Odense in Danish Superliagen play. George Bello and LASK visit Wolfsberger in Austrian league action. Gabriel Slonina and Eupen host Anderlecht.

Comments

  1. Balogun with a goal and an assist.

Weah’s move to Juventus is not looking like a good move. But Aalegri is looking like a clueless coach right now. Juve needs to go beg Pirlo’s forgiveness and rehire him as coach.

    • Booth didn’t look out of place, and was part of Volendam putting a scare in late. Pepi missed from close range, but his big contribution was drawing the second yellow on the CB. Tillman with a nice goal in the final seconds. Tillman, Man of the Match for PSV. Volendam isn’t good hopefully Booth will get plenty of minutes.
