Americans Abroad Player of the Week: Haji Wright

Haji Wright was amongst the goals again this past weekend for Coventry City, continuing a stellar first season in England.

Wright scored twice on Saturday at Vicarage Road as the Sky Blues rallied back to defeat Watford 2-1. The U.S. men’s national team forward earned SBI Americans Abroad Player of the Week honors for his impactful performance.

Wright’s 40th minute penalty-kick goal tied the match for Mark Robins’ squad before the 25-year-old delivered the winner in confident fashion. His left-footed strike with 18 minutes to play proved to be the difference as Coventry City made it back-to-back wins in league play.

Wright is now up to 14 goals for the Sky Blues across all competitions and is certainly playing a key role in Coventry’s promotion push. His goalscoring run could also lead to a potential USMNT inclusion next week as the Americans resume CONCACAF Nations League action against Jamaica.

First though, Coventry City will be seeking an FA Cup upset on March 16 when it visits Premier League side Wolves.
