Paxten Aaronson will be heading back to the Dutch Eredivisie this season after signing a multi-year contract extension with parent club, Eintracht Frankfurt.
Aaronson’s contract with the Bundesliga side has been extended until June 2028, the club announced Friday. Eintracht Frankfurt proceeded to loan Aaronson to FC Utrecht for the 2024-25 league campaign.
“Paxten Aaronson has already shown promising approaches with us and hinted at the potential he has,” Eintracht sporting director Timmo Hardung said. “As hoped, the loan to Vitesse Arnhem and the associated match practice gave him a boost. It’s important for him to keep at it and get playing time.
“In Utrecht, he has a good environment and a good club where he can take the next stage of development. We are totally convinced of Paxten and are sure that he will go his way with us in the Bundesliga after his time in Utrecht.”
Aaronson spent part of last season with Vitesse Arnhem, scoring four goals in 14 appearances. Despite the U.S. men’s national team attacker’s best efforts, Vitesse was relegated from the Eredivisie after an 18-point deduction.
Aaronson has made 22 combined appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt following his transfer from the Philadelphia Union, registering three assists. However, he’s been reduced to only 542 minutes of playing time, mainly being used as a substitute option across all competitions.
The 20-year-old recently featured for the U.S. men’s Olympic team earlier this month against Japan. He is aiming to be part of Marko Mitrovic’s final roster for the trip to Paris this July.
FC Utrecht already features one American player in Taylor Booth, who featured alongside Aaronson in the Olympic squad’s friendly on June 11. They finished seventh in the league table last season.
An interesting landing spot. He’ll be playing with his U23 teammate (Booth) which could boost his opportunities as they’ll be very comfortable with each other after the Olympics. Before the injuries Booth was performing very well @ FC Utrecht…Paxton has many of the same skill sets so hopefully he performs similarly.
I still believe that after the Olympics there are some positional players who’ll be well positioned to challenge for a WC roster spot. But they’ll need to have success at their clubs and at the Olympics.
IV,
“am i the only one who sees the contradiction between them being unwanted in germany and sent on loan but we’re gonna reup the deal in germany so the germans can increase the purchase price by the value of the extension?”
There is no contradiction. Players are assets.
Extensions reflect a desire on the part of the extender to maintain an interest in the player.
Acceptance of an extension by a player implies a desire for security and a belief that they can eventually break through.
In other words the extensions, the loans , reflect a desire on the part of the club to increase the value of the asset they obviously still believe in.
You seem to think that these clubs should be working to give the USMNT the best possible players as soon as possible. .
No.
BVB has their timetable for Gio and Frankfurt has their timetable for Paxton. They don’t give a fuck what IV thinks or what the USMNT needs. Neither of them are washed up yet.
” particularly if that increased price starts to make it awkwardly too pricy for me to find a good home needy enough to bring me in to start but loaded enough to afford a german transfer fee, — say, to sign long term in someplace like holland or even utrecht?”
OMG! contracts! Real business. I guess we’re not in high school or college anymore. The players have their “people” working for them so it’s on the players to cut what they see as the best deal for themselves.
You act like there is a sure fire formula for success for an American player in Europe and there just isn’t. And in fact this applies to all nationalities trying to make it in the top 5 leagues. There is a shit ton of competition for the jobs that Gio and Paxton want. This is not high school, college or select team anymore. This is real hard shit.
All this stuff is a gamble and all a player can do is play the very best they can every single minute.
It seems like at least at least half the time the borrowing club then wants to keep the loaned player. So, if that’s the case here, Aronson stays in the Eredevesie when he is 20, 21 and then if he does well he can move up. Usually the club who sells the loaned player to the borrowing club will have a clause to get some of the money if the player is then sold for more money. If the player stays the same or gets better, everybody wins. Look at Haji Wrioght. Started out at Schalke, but couldn’t hack it, went to Denmark, then to Turkey, now to the Championship and he kept getting better and he is still what, 25 or 26. Not every player can be an Mbappe and because Aronson isn’t starting in the Bundesliga or whatever doesn’t mean is career is over. It’s just starting.
Good loan move. Will be interesting to see what position he plays. I tend to see his longterm at CAM.
so, you had a good time in utrecht, so today we’re extending your contract in……..eintracht? son, are you a wee bit confused? we had this discussion about gio and dortmund and rumors he’d have to extend there just to go on loan when he’s not wanted. and am i the only one who sees the contradiction between them being unwanted in germany and sent on loan but we’re gonna reup the deal in germany so the germans can increase the purchase price by the value of the extension? particularly if that increased price starts to make it awkwardly too pricy for me to find a good home needy enough to bring me in to start but loaded enough to afford a german transfer fee, — say, to sign long term in someplace like holland or even utrecht?
I guess you missed the part about he’s only 20 years old. Not a lot of 20 year olds are starting in a top 5 league. His brother went to Europe when he was 20 and began playing in the Austrian Bundesliga at Red Bull Salzburg when he was 20. So Paxten is a bit ahead of his brother if we agree that the Eredevesie is a higher league than Austria.
So the better option is to stay at Frankfurt and not play?
Let’s get a run of appearances and some consecutive starts. I hope he makes a massive impact in the team. Anyone know if he’s trending as a 10 or an 8. I’m thinking the latter …
He played as a AM/W for U23s and I believe that’s where he played for Frankfurt as well. I think he was more in the 8 role for Vitesse. Not sure where he fits in Utrecht’s 4-3-3. Ron Jans who was fired/forced to resign at FC Cincinnati after multiple racial insensitivity incidents is the manager at Utrecht. Utrecht’s first preseason match is July 6.
