Josh Sargent was influential on Saturday as Norwich City picked up an important three points at Pride Park.
Sargent registered two assists for the Canaries in a 3-2 road victory over Derby County. The U.S. men’s national team forward hasn’t found the back of the net since August 24, but did make his presence known against the Rams this past weekend.
Although his first assist looked to have trickled out of bounds before Borja Sainz scored, Sargent connected with Sainz once again to ice the result in the 87th minute. Sainz walked away with his hat trick finish while Norwich City hung on for back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
Sargent now has two goals and three assists in seven league outings for the Canaries, remaining a key player in Johannes Hoff Thorup’s squad.
A busy week comes for the Canaries with consecutive home matches against Leeds United and Hull City before the October international break.
Thorup praised Sargent’s final-third abilities after the match, but also hinted at things he needs to improve on going forward this season.
“He was good when he was about to score the goals,” Thorup said about Sargent. “There’s also moments in the game where he can do a little bit better to keep the ball for the team, losing the ball in positions where you really cannot, in transitions.”

With a lot of new faces playing this well in their respective leagues (Serie A, Ligue 1, Pro League, Bundesliga, Eredivisie, EFL Championship, MLS etc.), it’s going to be very interesting who Mauricio Pochettino selects for HIS TEAM in the upcoming friendlies.
What new faces? Seriously who is someone without a cap or U23 caps that’s doing well in those leagues you named? Quinn Sullivan? It’s not like we haven’t been trying to get Koleosho. Seldom seen faces maybe, but new faces?
Johnnyrazor,
There are a lot of “new faces” meaning new in the fact that they are not the Gio’s, Weah, Pulisic, McKennie, Adams, Jedi, Ream etc. that USSoccer seemed to call up REGARDLESS of club form. So, whether we know the player or not, if someone at goalkeeper, defense, midfield or in attack, gets to start in a position for the USMNT that is not one of the regulars we know under GB (JUST FOR EXAMPLE a Busio, Luna or Sabbi)…..thats a new face in that spot
Busio has 13 caps, all in competitions. There’s a lot of injuries so we might see a “new face” or two but you’re dreaming if you think Poch is going to bring in huge numbers of new players.
Giovanni Reyna has 31 caps
Gyasi Zardes 68 caps
Kellyn Acosta 48 caps
Tyler Adams 42 caps
Brenden Aaronson 44 caps
Jackson Yueill 16 caps
…….so what is your point with 13 caps when HE’S BEEN PLAYING regularly with a Serie B team……that NOW a Serie A team
CURRENTLY, if you think you are going to see the same old players on the field, in a different formation you are sadly mistaken. Apart from Balogun, Pulisic, Musah, McKennie, Weah, Robinson, Richards…..MAYBE Scally, Tillman, Cardoso OR Aarsonson….NOBODY ELSE IS SAFE
I guess we will find out tomorrow.
No Dietz or Downs?
Gianluca Busio went 90 minutes for Venezia (who were clearly the better side) against a team like AS Roma, and the kid looked LIKE HE BELONGED IN SERIE A.
Venezia’s goal came off Busio’s beautiful curling shot that ricochet off the post which was then finished by Venezia’s captain Pohjanpalo. Venezia made 5 changes to boost the team’s attack and Eusebio Di Francesco trusted Busio to remain in the pitch.
VENEZIA ARE ONLY MISSING A GOAL SCORER. If they had quality finishers this was a 4-2 / 5-2 game. Even the highlights do not give this game justice

Looks like Tanner Tessmann started as a 10 for Lyon if the team sheet on ESPN is to be believed. I went looking for highlights on Youtube.com and discovered about a million FIFA game highlights pretending to be game highlights…I’d like to demand that our next president run on a platform of conducting a drone strike on anyone who does that going forwards; now that is a presidential candidate I could get behind. So no clue if Lyon truly were playing Tessmann there. Anybody gets a chance to see the real thing, do let me know.
Found the Bein Sports USA highlights on YouTube. I think he was more the 6 in a 4-3-3 with two 8s in front of him. Like Adams in Berhalter’s preferred setup. Transfermkt’s team sheet had it that way as well.
Appreciate it. I thought it was odd; Tessmann’s got a lot of qualities but a 10 he is not…like I’ve said, I see him sort of as a 5/6 tweener.
Just to judge from the highlights his first start looked pretty meh, but then, most first starts usually are. It’ll be interesting to see where he is in a couple months. I have zero doubts he has sufficient quality for France, though.
Pax Aaronson with the game winner for Utrecht. Came in after half time and got the second half 45 minutes. Looks like at CM. I feel he is better their versus the wing.
Wont be surprised if we see George Bello recalled for LB. No one has grasped the back up role and Bello has been good the past season and the start of this season.
