Belgian side Genk might have lost Mark McKenzie this summer but added a new American talent in its squad on Wednesday.
Kayden Pierre joined Genk in a permanent deal from MLS club Sporting KC, both clubs announced. SKC received an undisclosed fee for Pierre’s services and will also receive a sell-on fee should Pierre transfer elsewhere in the future.
The 21-year-old came up through the SKC academy before signing a homegrown contract in 2021. Pierre made 34 appearances for SKC, in addition to 42 appearances for Sporting KC II from 2020-24.
A Michigan native, Pierre featured three times for the U.S. Under-20 men’s national team since debuting in 2021.
Pierre joins a Genk squad that is seeking its first title lift since 2021.
Currently fifth in the Belgian Pro League standings, Genk resumes league play on September 14 at Cercle Brugge.
