Tyler Adams scores first Premier League goal, limps off in Bournemouth loss

Tyler Adams’ lengthy wait to celebrate his first English Premier League goal came to an end on Sunday afternoon in Manchester.

Adams scored his first goal for Bournemouth despite the club’s 3-1 road loss to Manchester City. The U.S. men’s national team midfielder played 80 minutes in the match before limping off as a second-half substitute.

Erling Haaland propelled Pep Guardiola’s men in front after 17 minutes, slotting home past Djordje Petrovic on a breakaway. It marked Haaland’s 12th league goal of the season, keeping him top of the league’s Golden Boot list.

Adams was in the right spot at the right time seven minutes later to equalize for Bournemouth. Alex Scott’s corner kick was swung into the box and after City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma failed to punch out the cross, Adams volleyed home the loose ball for a 1-1 equalizer.

The goal was Adams’ first as a player in England and his first at club level overall in 1,472 days.

Haaland quickly propelled Man City back in front after 33 minutes, this time racing around Petrovic before slotting home into an empty net.

Former City academy graduates Phil Foden and Nico O’Reilly teamed up to deliver the hosts’ third and final goal of the match on the hour mark. Foden played O’Reilly into the Bournemouth box before the left back drilled a shot into the far-right corner of Petrovic’s net.

Adams left the match in the 80th minute after being the victim of a kick in the back of the knee on a collision. After receiving treatment on the field, the veteran midfielder was replaced and watched the remainder of the match from the sidelines.

Man City would hang on to leapfrog the Cherries in the league table while Andoni Iraola’s men suffered their second league defeat of the campaign.

Both Iraola and USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino will be holding their breaths awaiting Adams’ diagnosis.

Bournemouth will travel to Aston Villa on November 9 in its final match before the international break.

The USMNT will face Paraguay on Uruguay later this month on Nov. 15 and 18 respectively.
