Griffin Yow’s expanding role with Belgian side Westerlo has led to hopes of a longer stay with the club.
Westerlo has offered Yow a one-year extension through the 2026-27 First Division season, a source close to the player confirmed to SBI. The former DC United winger currently has a contract until June 2026 and has attracted interest from clubs in England, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
Yow, 22, missed four matches of the current campaign due to a knee injury, but since has returned to action. He’s scored one goal in 13 appearances for Westerlo, logging 684 minutes of playing time.
Since joining the club in 2022, Yow has logged eight goals and seven assists in 47 first team appearances.
His productive 2023-24 season earned him a spot on the U.S. Olympic men’s national team last summer. Yow assisted once in a 4-1 group stage win over New Zealand in France, while also appearing in three additional matches.
He is also a former USMNT U-17 standout and could be on Mauricio Pochettino’s radar to make his senior debut in 2025.
Westerlo are ninth in the Belgian top flight standings and are winless in their last three matches across multiple competitions. Timmy Simons’ squad will face Union St. Gilloise on December 15 before final matches this year against Mechelen and Club Brugge.
Eredivisie is a better league.
Eredivisie is better at the top but I think Jupiter Pro League is deeper. Like 1-3 is better in Eredivisie but 4-10 are better in JPL.
