Ethan Horvath helps Cardiff City advance in FA Cup

Ethan Horvath’s FA Cup run with Cardiff City continued on Saturday in dramatic fashion.

Horvath made three saves including one in a penalty shootout as the Bluebirds defeated Stoke City 4-2 on penalty kicks. The two teams played out a 3-3 scoreline after 120 minutes of action.

It marked Horvath’s second straight victory in the historic competition.

Rubin Colwill and Lewis Koumas both registered braces for their respective clubs Lewis Baker and Yousef Salech also added goals of their own.

After no winner could be found in extra time, the two teams turned to spot kicks.

Horvath dove to his left to deny Michael Rose in the third round, giving Cardiff City the chance to advance. Chris Willock and Colwill both scored to propel the Welsh club into the Round of 16.

The 29-year-old Horvath has mainly been reduced to opportunities in the cup competitions, but played his part in Saturday’s victory. Horvath will likely be in the mix to start again in the Round of 16 during the weekend of March 1.

Cardiff City will resume EFL Championship play on February 11 against Portsmouth.
