Lynden Gooch has played most of his career in England and looks reportedly set to finalize a longer stay there.
English third-tier club Huddersfield Town is in advanced talks to sign Gooch, The Yorkshire Post reported Thursday. Gooch, a former U.S. men’s national team player, is currently a free agent after spending the last two seasons with Stoke City in the EFL Championship.
The 29-year-old has made over 300 appearances in his club career to date, spending most of his career with Sunderland. Gooch scored 25 goals and registered 37 assists in 247 appearances for the Black Cats, featuring for them in England’s top-three divisions.
He also spent time at Doncaster Rovers and Gateshead during the earlier stages of his career.
A California native, Gooch earned four caps for the USMNT.
Huddersfield Town was relegated to League One in the 2023-24 campaign and missed out on the promotion playoffs last spring. Gooch’s arrival at the John Smith Stadium would bring valuable experience to the Terriers’ squad ahead of the new season.
Huddersfield Town opens the 2025-26 season at home against Leyton Orient on August 2.
Was kind of hoping he’d get a beloved vet contract with Sunderland and play 30 minutes all season like Timmy Chandler has at Frankfurt. He was taking pics with fans at Wembley during the promotion final.
Lydon Gooch has had a solid career in the Championship and League 1 level in England. He never made it beyond a couple of friendly appearances at the USMNT level, but its nice to see him continue his playing career.
