A trio of U.S. men’s national team players received honors for their impactful summer at the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Defender Chris Richards and midfielders Malik Tillman, and Diego Luna were all named to the CONCACAF Gold Cup Best XI, the federation announced Wednesday. The USMNT trio helped the Americans reach the tournament final before falling 2-1 to Mexico.
Richards continued to be a leader in the USMNT backline this summer, scoring two goals off of set pieces. The Crystal Palace centerback started in all six of the USMNT’s Gold Cup matches while also featuring in a 2-1 friendly loss to Turkey in June.
Tillman also started in all six Gold Cup matches, scoring three goals and adding two assists. The 23-year-old also assisted once in the aforementioned loss to Turkey.
Luna stated in five of his six appearances, scoring three goals and adding two assists. The Real Salt Lake midfielder earned Man of the Match honors after delivering his first USMNT brace in a semifinal victory over Guatemala.
All three players will aim to be part of the USMNT’s next international window this September when the program faces South Korea and Japan in a pair of home friendlies.
