Daryl Dike to miss start of West Bromwich Albion’s season

Daryl Dike will unfortunately miss the start of West Bromwich Albion’s season.

Dike suffered a thigh injury in training, which will keep him out of action until after the September international break, the club announced Friday. The American forward missed most of last season after recovering from a ruptured Achilles’ injury.

Dike, 25, joined West Brom from Orlando City back in January 2022 but has been on the sidelines more than he has been on the field. He has been reduced to only 43 appearances over the past two-and-a-half seasons, scoring nine goals and adding two assists.

A former collegiate standout at the University of Virginia, Dike is heading into the final season of his contract at the Hawthorns.

Dike’s continued injury problems have also kept him out of U.S. men’s national team involvement for the past two years. His last cap came in March 2023 during CONCACAF Nations League action.

West Brom opens its EFL Championship campaign on August 9 against Blackburn Rovers. The earliest that Dike could return to action in September 13 against Derby County.

  1. Another guy you wonder what might have been if his body had cooperated. Hate it for him, I cannot imagine how frustrating this has to be.

Jacking a thread, I’d love to see a Leagues Cup article. It’s been…highly entertaining so far, and the way they’re putting the squads head-to-head gives you an apples-to-apples look at MLS v. Liga MX. I mean, when you’re watching the Seattle effing Sounders curb-stomp Cruz Azul 7-0, and Monterrey, Chivas, Club America, and Leon all go down in their opening matches…like, wow. The only Mexican big boy to make it out of Game 1 unscathed was Tigres.

That is definitely newsworthy “international soccer”, I would think. I mean, Oh My but is Cruz Azul ever the talk of Mexico right now and not in a good way, and I’m not sure their new manager will even make it to Sunday’s match against LA Galaxy.
