George Campbell scores first West Bromwich Albion goal

20 appearances into his West Bromwich Albion career, George Campbell finally got to celebrate his first goal for the club.

Campbell scored the opener on Monday night as West Brom defeated QPR 2-1 at the Hawthorns in EFL Championship play. The American defender logged a productive 90 minutes in Ryan Mason’s starting lineup, continuing a positive first season abroad.

Campbell rose high in the 24th minute to head the Baggies ahead 1-0. Callum Styles’ corner kick was finished off by the 24-year-old Campbell, giving him his first goal overall since 2023.

An Ousmane Diakite own goal tied things up for QPR before halftime, but West Brom would have the final say on the night.

Nat Phillips propelled the hosts back in front after 55 minutes, giving West Brom a 2-1 advantage that they wouldn’t relinquish.

Campbell, who has continued at right back for the Baggies this winter, finished the match with eight duels won, three shots, and five defensive recoveries. The former MLS homegrown helped West Brom jump up to 16th place in the league standings, moving seven points back of the top-six.

Up next for the Baggies are back-to-back road matches against Swansea City on New Year’s Day and Leicester City on Jan. 5 respectively.
