Josh Sargent kicked off 2026 in emphatic fashion for Norwich City.
Sargent scored his first goal of the new year and his seventh EFL Championship goal this season as the Canaries defeated QPR 2-0 at Loftus Road Stadium. The American forward has now scored two goals in the past four weeks at club level, picking up where he started the league campaign last summer.
After a goal-less first half between the two sides, Sargent broke the deadlock quickly after halftime.
Matej Jurasek’s dangerous cross from the right wing was headed home by a flying Sargent, giving him his 55th career goal for the club.
Jovon Makama doubled the visitors lead in second-half stoppage time, finishing off a fast break with a low drive into the bottom corner.
Amadou Mbengue pulled a late consolation goal back for QPR, but Philippe Clement’s squad would hang on for a vital victory.
Sargent played 72 minutes in the match, making back-to-back appearances since early-December.
The Canaries moved one point from safety following their win and Portsmouth’s 5-0 loss to Bristol City.
Up next for Norwich City is a home league date with Stoke City on January 4 before turning its attention to FA Cup play on Jan. 11.
