Tim Weah assists once as Marseille advances in Coupe De France

Marseille advanced to the Coupe De France quarterfinals on Tuesday with Tim Weah continuing a positive start to 2026 in the process.

Weah assisted once in Marseille’s 3-0 Round of 16 victory over Rennes, helping the club rebound from back-to-back winless results. The U.S. men’s national team winger/wingback helped Roberto De Zerbi’s squad grab an early advantage at the Orange Velodrome and never look back.

Weah’s scrappiness and fight were on display as early as the second minute, setting up Amine Gouiri for a 1-0 lead. After winning back possession in the Rennes box, Weah eventually teed up Gouiri for a point-blank finish from close range.

It marked Weah’s second assist in his last four appearances across all competitions.

Mason Greenwood continued his sensational season by extending Marseille’s lead to 2-0 one minute into the second half. Gouiri turned distributor on Greenwood’s finish, watching the former England youth national team player celebrate his 21st goal of the season.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang capped off the scoring with seven minutes to play, giving Marseille a convincing 3-0 advantage. The Gabon international came off the bench to help cap off Marseille’s first shutout victory since January 13.

Weah finished the match with four duels won, six defensive recoveries, and three tackles completed.

Up next for Weah and Marseille is a trip to Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday.
